Mt Kenya is the second-highest peak in Africa and an ancient extinct volcano. With its rugged, glacier-clad summits, forested middle slopes, and breathtaking landscapes, Mt Kenya is one of the most impressive natural destinations in East Africa.
There are 12 remnant glaciers on the mountain, all of which are receding rapidly, as well as four secondary peaks that sit at the head of U-shaped glacial valleys. The mountain has about 20 glacial tarns (small lakes) of varying sizes and numerous glacial moraine features between 3,950 m and 4,800 m.
The highest peaks are Batian (5,199 m) and Nelion (5,188 m), while the third-highest peak is Point Lenana (4,984 m).
The scenery and ecological formations surrounding this designated World Heritage Site are breathtakingly beautiful. Mount Kenya National Park is also a Biosphere Reserve, offering visitors a remarkable combination of mountain landscapes, wildlife, forests, and unique ecological zones.
