Your Western Kenya experience can be customized to include a boating excursion on Lake Victoria. Visit the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary, located about 3 km from the city, which hosts leopards, hyenas, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, hippos, small mammals like the threatened sitatunga, reptiles, and a variety of bird species. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

After breakfast, transfer to the lake shore or yacht club for a boat ride to Ndere Island National Park. According to Luo legend, Ndere (“meeting place”) is where Mikaye, the mother of the Luo, rested during her journey down the Nile to Lake Victoria. Spend the day spotting hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards, water antelopes, and numerous bird species. Enjoy fishing and savor your catch for dinner. Lunch is served on the boat. Return to your hotel or camp for overnight.

After breakfast, head to the yacht club for a full day on Lake Victoria. Visit Kiboko Bay Beach Resort to view hippos, then join local fishermen at Dunga Beach for further fishing adventures. Lunch is served at Kiboko Bay. Return to your hotel or camp for dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast, depart for Kakamega Forest Reserve, Kenya’s only tropical rainforest. Explore the forest with a local guide, learning about its unique ecology and spotting endemic birds, monkeys, butterflies, and diverse plant species. Enjoy the serenity and biodiversity of this lush ecosystem. Dinner and overnight at Rondo Retreat Centre or forest bandas.

After an early morning forest walk of about three hours, depart Kakamega and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening. Drop-off at your hotel concludes your Western Kenya safari.
